About this card

Frigg is the queen of the Æsir, the wife of Odin, and the mother of Baldr [S2]. She is a goddess of marriage, the home, and (in some accounts) the sky. Her most defining myth is the death of Baldr: when she learned that her son was fated to die, she extracted oaths from all things not to harm him — except the mistletoe, which she overlooked (or refused to bind); Loki then exploited this to kill Baldr [S2]. Frigg is a figure of maternal grief and of the limits of divine power — she cannot save her son [S2].
