About this card

'Ninhursag' (also 'Nin-hursag') is the 'earth-mother', the 'mistress of the mountains' — her name means 'Lady of the Mountain' [S5]. She is a mother-figure in the Sumerian pantheon, the 'mother' of the gods (in some accounts) [S5]. Ninhursag is the 'earth' as a female principle [S5]. She is less well-attested as a distinct deity than the great gods; she is the 'earth-mother' principle [S5].
