About this card

Sarutahiko-no-Ōkami ('Monkey-Field God') is a deity of crossroads and guidance, especially in Izumo [S1]. In the Kuniyurinshi he is the lead of Ōkuninushi's retinue who resists the heavenly prince Ninigi; he is the one who, carrying the sword, is subdued in the contest, clearing the way for the heavenly takeover [S1]. He is also the guide who leads Ninigi through the earthly realm on his descent [S1]. He is a liminal figure of the crossroads and the threshold between the heavenly and earthly realms [S1][S2].
