About this card
Oceanus is the primordial Titan who personifies the great ocean-river that, in Greek cosmography, encircled the inhabited world (the oikoumene) [S1]. He is the eldest of the Titans and the consort of Tethys; together they are the parents of the rivers, the oceanids, and the winds [S1]. He is a vast, serene figure, more a cosmic boundary than an active god, but his role as the boundary of the world is cosmographically important.
