About this card
Metis is a Titaness, the personification of counsel and cunning, and the first wife of Zeus [S1][S4][S5]. A prophecy said that their child would overthrow Zeus as he had overthrown Cronus, so Zeus swallowed Metis while she was pregnant with Athena; Athena was then born fully formed from Zeus's head [S1][S4][S5]. Metis is thus the mother of Athena and a symbol of the cunning wisdom that Zeus embodies.
