About this card
Alcmena is a mortal woman, the wife of Amphitryon, king of Thebes. Zeus took her in the form of Amphitryon and fathered Heracles [S2][S5]. (The 'Amphitryon' story — Zeus impersonating the husband — is a later elaboration; the core fact is that Heracles's divine father is Zeus and his mortal mother is Alcmena.) [S5]
