Who they are
Danaë is a mortal princess, daughter of King Acrisius of Argos. When an oracle warned Acrisius that he would be overthrown by his grandson, he imprisoned Danaë in a bronze tower to prevent her from bearing a child. Zeus came to her (in the form of a shower of gold) and she bore Perseus [S5]S5 · Pseudo-Apollodorus, Library (Bibliotheca)c. 1st–2nd c. CE (transmits earlier)text. Acrisius later cast mother and son out in a chest, but they were saved; Perseus went on to become the hero who slew Medusa [S5]S5 · Pseudo-Apollodorus, Library (Bibliotheca)c. 1st–2nd c.
